Companies Push for Low Sodium

There is a movement among food companies to provide food that is lower in sodium content. This is the latest in a push for a more healthy country. Many companies see healthier foods as a more attractive and growing market.

There are many companies that are putting a lot of money into developing these low sodium food items. Some critics argue that even though consumers might say they want their food to be healthier they really don't' want it to change. This is had to do when we are talking about sodium or salt. Salt is one of the most distinguishable tastes in the human pallet and the absence of this is not something that most people would just forget about. Have you ever had popcorn without salt? It's like chewing on fluffy cardboard.

In the end, only time will tell if this is just wishful thinking on the part of consumers and food companies alike or if we are seeing a new trend in the way our food is marketed toward us and therefore consumed.
